Refurbishing Office Furniture: Affordable, Like-New Office Furniture Solutions

Refurbished and remanufactured furniture is the affordable, new-to-you furniture trend that is not only cost-effective, but completely customizable, sustainable, and unique to your needs. What does it take to re-furbish used office furniture?

Our refurbished, previously owned furniture at Minnesota Office Furniture, has “good bones” at their core. We then switch out the fabric, finishes, and sometimes desktops to cater to a customer’s needs and desired colors or patterns.

The major difference between used or pre-owned vs. remanufactured is their as-is condition. When we refurbish pre-owned furniture, we repaint and cover any scratches or scuffs. Except for a dent here or there on the back of the cubicle, invisible after installation, refurbished office furniture is virtually brand new to the customer.

Why Are They So Cost-Effective?

Refurbished furniture is cost-effective because it starts as used, pre-owned furniture which we can get at a fraction of the cost of new furniture. Sometimes whole batches of cubicles from closed or moved offices can be purchased at a deal. Then, purchasing materials like fabric, paint, and desktops at a good cost as well and for cheaper than when they are customized add-ons for new furniture. New furniture is likely to be upsold to make a profit and make up for using new, expensive materials to build it.

What About Wear and Tear?

Wear and tear is something that is most likely going to come with anything previously owned, and heavily used office furniture. That includes scratches, faded paint or color, small dents, worn corners, or torn fabric. Cosmetic flaws like these are very common and very fixable. Scratches on baseboards can be rotated and moved to a place that’s not visible. Surface marks and scratches can be buffed out, painted over, and made virtually unnoticeable. The fabric on benches, chairs, and filing cabinets can be easily removed and reupholstered for a refreshed look, and customized to what you want. Pre-owned furniture that is too nice to re-furbish can be sold as-is.

What Types of Furniture Can be Refurbished?

It really depends on the cubicle or desk system you have. If the pieces aren’t able to configure together and fit to manufacturer standards after refurbishing, it can’t really be done. If you have a system we refurbish, then we can reconfigure the layout or flip your panels to look new again. But basically, cubicles, desktops, filing cabinets, chairs, modular lobby furniture, etc. can all be refurbished! Furniture that is in poor shape, or has wear and tear beyond repair can be refurbished to a point but will be as-is pieces.

Can I Customize Refurbished Furniture?

Sure! The core panels are the original manufacturer parts, then fabrics and even the desktop can be swapped out and updated to the specifications you require. Colors, fabrics, and configurations can be customized when refurbishing furniture, as long as the pieces will fit and work properly. Keep in mind, though, when trying to furnish an office with combinations of used and pre-owned pieces, customizing everything can still come with a big price tag depending on your budget. It can be useful to have different styles of cubicles or desks in different areas of the office, so you can customize each of those areas, and not have to make the entire office match.

Minnesota Office Furniture specializes in refurbished workstations. Refurbishing used office furniture is cost-effective, reduces waste, allows for a lot of flexibility, and is very cost-effective. Don’t spend your entire office renovation budget on brand new furniture when you can save money and customize to your exact wants and needs with refurbished furniture.
